LFH Engineering Aims To Strengthen Global Links At SMM 2018

A north-east specialist in engine pump manufacturing aims to strengthen global links at a leading international maritime trade fair this autumn.

A team from Ellon-based LFH Engineering will attend SMM 2018 which will be held at the Hamburg Messe und Congress fair complex from Tuesday, September 4 until Friday, September 7.

With a local workforce of 34 employees all based in Ellon, the company specialises in the design and manufacture of diesel engine coolant pumps, and offers full in-house pump production, repair and refurbishment services.

Around 75 percent of the company’s business comes from overseas markets in Europe, North America and Asia, including the ship repair and shipbuilding markets.

Les Hill, Chief Executive Officer of LFH Engineering, will lead the delegation to the trade fair which is held every two years and attracts more than 2,200 exhibitors and 50,000 visitors from around the world.

He said: "We’re looking forward to attending SMM 2018 as it is one of the world’s most important trade events and offers significant opportunities to develop existing and new business links across the globe.

“This is an extremely popular exhibition for a business like ours, allowing us a great opportunity to meet up with many of our European clients in one place at the same time. The feedback we receive from them gives us a good cross section of the market conditions and how we can help each other win more business.

“We’re also beginning to see new engine developments we were involved in earlier with some of our international customers ready to be introduced to the commercial market having finally completed their engine development and testing program.  

“Increasing our work in these areas is a key part of our growth strategy in this market and attending international shows plays a huge part.”

Over the last year, representatives from LFH Engineering have attended several international shows and exhibitions as far afield as Shanghai, Singapore, St Petersburg and Rotterdam which has led to several new business opportunities.

Launched in March 2010, LFH Engineering comes with a long-established history in the design and manufacture of pumps, providing a range of products for ship propulsion systems, diesel power plants and the railway locomotive sector.

The ISO 9001-accredited business also offers a full range of pump tooling and service kits along with repair and refurbishment services.
