A north-east specialist in engine pump manufacturing has posted strong sales figures for the financial year end and is targeting growth in markets around the world.
Ellon-based LFH Engineering achieved global sales of £2.8m for the 2016/17 financial year up to the end of March, an increase of 14% on the previous year’s sales figures.
With more than 30 employees in Ellon, the company specialises in the design and manufacture of diesel engine coolant pumps, and offers full in-house pump production, repair and refurbishment services on all LFH, Pegson and Terex Powertrain Pumps.
Around 75 percent of the company’s business comes from overseas markets in Europe, North America and Asia, including the ship repair and ship building markets, the nuclear energy sector and the locomotive industry.
Les Hill, Chief Executive Officer of LFH Engineering, said: “We’re very pleased to post strong sales figures this year which reflects how much work we’ve been doing with existing clients and new customers over the last twelve months.
“Although the demand in the marine sector for new builds and repairs has been generally quiet we have done well with several projects in Asia and are beginning to see encouraging signs of improvement in other areas going forward.
“Activity is beginning to pick up again in several regions, supporting a healthier order book for the year ahead. Recent meetings with some of our customers have been more encouraging and several larger, long term projects are under way.”
Working closely with Scottish Enterprise, LFH Engineering has recently applied to register trademarks in the UK, Europe and China. In addition, a lot of work has been done on the company’s current sales strategy with a view to creating a more distributor driven model for the aftermarket potential.
Mr. Hill added: “We’ve also been working hard to improve our facilities to enhance the level of service we can offer from design, quality control and production.
“With the advice and support from Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS) we are currently investing a five-figure sum to upgrade our workshop in Ellon. This will result in a new facility layout which will help improve production efficiency and create a more streamlined manufacturing process as well as working environment benefits to all our staff.”
“Our customer on-site service is highly regarded with our engineers working around the world to ensure we deliver a full after sales service as well as maintenance support when required.”
Launched in March 2010, LFH Engineering comes with a long-established history in the design and manufacture of pumps, providing a range of products for ship propulsion systems, diesel power plants and the railway locomotive sector.
The ISO 9001-accredited business also offers a range of pump service kits along with repair and refurbishment services.
The company won the overall Small Business of the Year accolade at the Northern Star Business Awards 2011.
